W E L C O M E!

It’s that time of year again! Time to peruse all of the details of a decorated farmhouse. Before it gets covered in muck boots, farm-wear, and the aspects of a farm that don’t need to be highlighted here… ahem… let’s follow Miss Lambie to the front porch.

When you live in the south, front porch sittn’ is BEST in the fall.

Have you guys ever heard of a “peanut pumpkin”??? Me neither! I was on the hunt for some pretty gourds when I found this delightful thing. It’s so cool looking! I’m all about the unique.

Let’s move into the living room…

Let’s talk about some of details.

Lesson number one… you CAN overdo the decorations. People seriously. The point isn’t to make your house look as though it’s been hit by the fall fairy. I like to start with a neutral base – the walls, furniture, and window treatments. From there add pops of color. No more than a pop, though.

This room is balanced with a streamlined, neutral look and yet you can tell what season it is by the subtle hints.

It’s like the room is telling you that the leaves are changing, the air is getting cooler, and the sweaters are coming out.

The colors are timeless fall mixed in with a little bit of bold grey.

Here we have Queen Bee’s throne. That’s one of my favorite comfy spots in the house… coffee included.

Don’t forget your inspiration! Blog posts such as these, a little trial & error, my local Pottery Barn & Home Goods stores, and, not the least of these, my Southern Living magazine are resources I use to acquire the vision. #GetInspired

I know what you’re thinking… PINK?!?!? That’s not a fall color! But, ya know what? Sometimes it’s ok to break the rules. In my book, pink is a legitimate fall color. So is blue…

One of the things I do to keep myself from over doing the decor, is to focus on some of the more simple nook spaces.

This little tabletop display is behind my Queen Bee chair. The table itself acts as a console table (one that you would put behind a sofa or large chair). I usually display a flower bouquet, vintage looking bottles as seen here, a candle, and a book or two in this nook.

The table and display do a great job of dolling up a boring chair back as well as create a comfy feel to whoever sits in that spot.

Love that sheep! And my basket that Brooksie brought back for me from Guatemala…

Ok y’all, now we’re entering into one of my absolute favorite rooms in my house. The dining room.

To me, this room can indicate so many things near and dear to my heart. For one food…

I’m a farmwife and a southern woman who loves to cook, and not only that I’m a baptist and I eat like one, too. I eat a paleo diet most of the time but when it’s fried chicken time… watch out!

I mean let’s get real… I eat paleo so that I can eat like a true southerner on the weekends… There I said it… Just kidding. I really do like what my food lifestyle does for my body. But anyways…

The dining room not only represents my love of cooking and food but it also has a ton of memories of Brooks and I. It’s one of the places we decompress at day’s end. We sit, share a meal together, and talk about our dreams, goals, and other more serious debacles at this very table.

This beautiful picture below is not only a souvenir from Brooks’ trip to Guatemala, but it also encompasses a life that we strive for. A simple, humble, farm life.

He brought this picture home and it signifies everything that we are… a farming family, striving for a simple, uncomplicated life, living in cottage, with mountains in the backdrop. And of course the cattle. Always cattle… and Lambie.

Tablescapes are my all time favorite area of the home to decorate!

It really is about the ingredients of the recipe, am I right!?!

You need a few things to make a great meal. A good recipe and ingredients of fantastic quality. Spoken like a true foodie, eh? Decorating is very similar. You can have a great vision (recipe) but you need to find great ingredients to build that vision (decor materials).

This year I kept it simple. Simple in color choices, simple in the kind of materials, simple in look. That’s farmhouse style folks!

If you want to know my MOST FAVORITE piece this year, it’s this bouquet! The materials came from various places but the colors look amazing, the textures blend very well, and I used a silver pitcher from my farmhouse… and I didn’t even polish it. That’s right. I didn’t polish my silver. #ThrowingThatRuleBookOutTheWindow

The tarnish was just too beautiful, to be honest.

The table setting turned out lovely as well. It’s a simple design that also broke rules at the same time. You’ll notice that I turned the pastel colored placemat sideways to create a little drama coming off of the table. The mat flows smoothly off the side of the table.

The nontypical fall color in the placemat fuses well with the rest of the more fall like colors and textures, such as the burlap runner, seagrass charger, and fall themed salad plates. It all just dances so well together!

Another one of my favorite pieces this year are these pomegranate bundles I found at Pottery Barn! Oh-my-lanta(!) are they gorgeous!

I bought one bundle and deconstructed it to use in various places.

I can’t stand a cluttered tabletop. I try to create a beautiful look that’s also practical. A rule of thumb that I try to stick to is this… a tabletop should have room for a basket of bread, a carafe of water, and a couple bottles of wine.

If you do family buffet style at your gatherings then obviously you need to have a REALLY simple design, keeping room for multiple platters.

If I’m having guests, I use my actual buffet for serving food, leaving the table for delightful decor and conversation.

{Sigh}, the place we hardworking farmers rest our heads at night. I love what my sister points out… we spend a third of our life sleeping. With that said, our bedroom and bedding had better be comfy!

Squishy pillows, soft sheets, pretty bedding, and delightful & happy decor can help us relax for a good night’s sleep!

I am so loving this tan pillow by Pottery Barn!

I typically try to stay away from white as my main background or foundation color. But, as it is, white is the theme in this room. But, here again, pops of color.

I love the tarnished vase. I have one like it that I should pull out!

So, I was going to touch on this in the post but it was getting a little long. LOL A point I wanted to make was that Farmhouse style is very casual and informal. So, silver doesn’t need to be polished, rooms don’t have to be kept just so, and you don’t have to worry about every being perfect. It’s casual.

Get that vase out and put something in it! ?
